Proudly Namibian: Celebrate Independence with Local Businesses at Auas Valley Shopping Mall
Every year on 21 March, Namibians come together to celebrate Independence Day — a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, and to support the people and businesses that keep our communities growing.
Auas Valley Shopping Mall is proudly part of that story. As one of the property developments Agra invested in during the late 1990s, the mall was created to diversify into stable market segments and provide income streams that are not directly tied to the agricultural cycle. In 2013, the mall began a major upgrade and extension to retain anchor tenants and support future growth — a N$220 million investment that helped shape the contemporary, relaxed shopping destination many Windhoek families know today.
What makes Auas Valley special isn’t only the building — it’s the Namibian brands and teams inside it. A great example is Model — a brand with deep local roots. It started back in 1965 when farmers Werner and Hilde List began delivering fresh vegetables to the community. From those early days, Model grew steadily: taking full ownership of Model Super Market in 1969, expanding to towns like Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, and later becoming Model Pick n Pay in 1997. Today, the business serves communities through 23 stores, employs over 2,300 Namibians, and has returned to the original Model name — a proud nod to where it all began.

You’ll also find other homegrown favourites that make shopping local easy, from Agra (serving households, farmers and outdoor enthusiasts) to unique Namibian craft and retail outlets such as Shilongo Leather Works. Outdoor lovers can browse Agra Safari Den and A. Rosenthal, while families on the go can tick off essentials in one trip , from health and beauty to everyday services.
That’s the real convenience of Auas Valley: it’s designed for everyday life. Add trusted names like Waltons, health and wellness services like Auas Valley Pharmacy and Auas VetMed, and convenient banking options, plus food stops like Jonno’s Bistro, and you have a true one-stop destination where errands feel simpler and time is saved.
Independence is about freedom, but it’s also about choosing to invest in our own. This March, pop into Auas Valley Shopping Mall, support proudly Namibian businesses, and enjoy the convenience of a modern retail environment with free, secure parking and quick access to everything you need.
